Epiphany After Epiphany...

It is with a humbled soul that I view this yearly passage of Bastille Day for diverse reasons. Historically it was this day when Babe Ruth hit his 700th homer as a Yankee in 1934. 39 years later I attended my first game as a 9 year old kid when Steve Busby out dueled Doc Medich 4-2. Fellow Cuban Cookie Rojas with a first inning homer led to the win. Ralph Houk was the skipper and life was simple and fun for me.

This day in 1997 in the early morning hours I had a Come-To-Jesus with myself and the law. After a night of drinking and getting behind wheel of a vehicle I made a wrong left handed turn. Blowing way above a .08 I optioned for Deferred Prosecution. With all guidelines followed and all requirements met, after two years on 9/19/99 the charge was expunged.

At the time I had to face the fact that what I thought was fun was actually killing me. An act of escapism and need to not deal with life on life's terms. No matter these are two things that always pop into my mind when July 14th rolls around.

An appreciation for my first love and a second chance at my only life. It hasn't always been easy, but I am glad I was given a second chance.

Numbers do not lie. Only 1 in 10 make it in sobriety and not going back to old behaviors. September 11th will mark 13 years for yours truly. You better believe I'm just as grateful today as I was then.

Be safe on this holiday in some parts. Also remember that if you choose to go out and partake, you can always pay 100 bucks for a cab instead of 15 grand for a Dewey. Just saying my friends!

Miss Sara is now 30. Happy Birthday pal!

Over and out in Big D

Mr. Will
