Oh (to be) King!
Happy Scatter-shot Wednesday to you. I hope all is well in your immediate world. Do not be fooled by today's title. Think of it as double meaning. It occurred to me that today is the absolutely PERFECT day to get ahead, to move ahead, and to get ahead. I mean isn't today March forth?
Had I not been indisposed to watch a sloppy hockey game, I would have had a chance to entertain two very well known Dallas Maverick personalities last night at Cool River. It is on good authority that the man behind Uberman and The Voice were well taken care of on the dining side. I can also surmise just how much fun it is to cover the Mavericks in the middle of a big winning streak. More than I can say for the Dallas Stars...

It took me a moment to realize that last night's meeting with the Kings included six Olympic medal athletes. Four with L.A. Two with the Stars. That was the highlight. Poor Dallas looked lethargic, old, and tired. The worst thing that could have happened was a two week Olympic break in the middle of a winning streak. Four different Kings found paydirt before the Stars got on the board.
Back in 2005 I recall how the Stars were a perfect 8-0 on Los Angeles. The Kings are now 5-0 and meet three more times in the next month. Some are of the belief that it will be an uphill battle to reach the #8 seed in Dallas. That may very well be. I hope the pundits are wrong. I'm also glad that Steve Ott will remain in North Texas until 2014. Good move front office people!
The Sacramento Kings will be next up to come to the AAC. Look for the win streak to extend to nine. Easily. Roddy B has been getting an increase in playing time now that Jason Terry will be facing surgery for a broken bone. I am hopeful for another trip to the AAC for the Mavs when Boston is in town...
I was in my vehicle today heading in to work when I turned on the radio and heard...exhibition baseball with the Rangers and Royals (speaking of Kings). Yes the games don't count but the fact we are speaking diamond love, the season is fast approaching. April 4th it all starts with the Yankees at Fenway.
It was also at Fenway Park 4/6/73 that the designated hitter was born. Ron Blomberg was the first in a 15-5 loss to the Red Sox. Hard to believe the DH is now 38 years young. It has added a new element to offense in the American League. I have no issue with it whatsoever. May it stay in place for life...
For the last five years I have averaged 70-75 Ranger home games a year. That number will lessen in 2010 by virtue of a good work schedule. The question now is whether I go the route of 16, 28, or 40 games? 28 assures me of all the Cubs, Sox, Yanks, and Pirates. Works for me.
Josh Hamilton injured his shoulder doing agility drills. The question early on is whether or not Hammy can stay healthy? The bigger question is whether or not Scott Feldman earned the right to be the Opening Day starter now that Kevin Millwood has been dealt? Sorry Rich Harden but I say yes.
Blues up next for the Stars. I will not be attending. Awaiting the 14th when the Avalanche make a return visit to Dallas. It will also be my first day off in 11 days and my final day off at age 45. Yes, March means another year about to be a memory. 45 for the most part has been memorable.
Remember where you were the first time you saw the videotaped beating of Rodney King? That happened in the early morning hours on this day in 1991. L.A. has never been the same again...Happy to say Mr. King has turned his life around.
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D
Mr. Will
