Weather or Not!
On a day when I remember today is a birthday for both Babe Ruth (1895) and Ronald Reagan (1911), those two tidbits are pushed to the wayside in light of what is transpiring on the East Coast. There are going to be some records set for a long long while. I read where the city of Baltimore will surpass 30 inches...the most ever in their history. Since this is the city where the Bambino was born, perhaps we should refer to this weather pattern as 'Ruthian'.
Seeing all the snowdrifts reminded me of a Blizzard that also fell on this very day in 1978. I remember being away at boarding school and class was cancelled for 2 whole days. Where I was in located in Morristown, NJ. wasn't nearly as hard hit as places north of us. I know New York and New Jersey were pelted with over a foot. You can double that if you were in Massachusetts or Vermont. This was also on the heels of a vicious ice storm that ironically hit the East Coast on Super Bowl weekend...
When you're a kid the thought of a snow day on the East Coast meant a few things. 1: A chance to make some extra cash by shoveling driveways. If you had a shovel attached to the front of your truck, you were in business. 2:If you live near a mountaintop and possessed a Flexible Flyer or a Toboggan, it was off to sled ride ALL THE DAMN DAY. It's a miracle I didn't suffer more illnesses as a kid. Those were fun days.
The weekend of this Blizzard of 1978, we decided to get a little creative. On the dorm there was a huge wrestling room where the floors were padded with mat. One week away from the start of Spring Training on the brain. It was all about Reggie Jackson and a chance to repeat as Champs.
Three buddies and I decided to forego the wrestling stuff. We grabbed a bat and three gloves. With over 200 yards of space to work with, we had a short fielder, deep fielder, a catcher and a hitter. Five hours of fungoes later, it was time for Dorm check. Totally oblivious to the cold. Good times...
I understand that because of what is currently going down eastward, things will not be as rosy. I am hearing about numerous power outages. I can only imagine the number of pissed off people who won't get to watch the Super Bowl due to no electricity.
I then begin to think about the plight of kids and the elderly without electricity. I've been there, it isn't fun. Let's hope the East can bail out and bounce back in a very quick and vibrant fashion.

Be sure to check out the live entertainment at Cool River this weekend as Incognito will be performing. Great job by Drive last night! Don't forget to check out the Cognac and Cigar Bar once in Las Colinas. The smoke is pure intoxication so bitter sweet!
That's all I got. Enjoy the Super Weekend! Go Saints!
Over and out in Big D
