All Business After Nine Years.

I did not see this coming. This was like a jab that came from my blind side that clipped my nose and knocked me down for an eight count. The business side of the NFL is a tough and cut-throat one. Sadly there comes a day when an owner looks at you like a fish about to get bait-cut with the hope of getting a draft pick or cash considerations.

How else do you pay homage to a guy who did so much for revitalizing a city that struggled for close to a decade prior to his arrival? Sad but true, LaDainain Tomlinson is no longer a Charger with his release this day.

Statistics appear to bear this decision out. You take ex amount of hits as a player from 23-30. Something about hitting 30 and onward that says you garner tread on the feet. Rust in the quads. Those cuts not as cutting and those bursts of clear not as bursting. It happens. Even the best horse gets put out to pasture after a given time. What's equally important are the things you're remembered for.

Do I foresee a long run left for L.T. in his next location? My guess is no. I am guessing 2010 will be his last year. It is being rumored that he'll be a great fit in Philly or Minnesota. That's all preliminary. What I do know is this. The last image I had of L.T. was sitting on the sideline looking dejected as his Chargers lost to the Jets. I wanted to see some cheer leading and leadership on his part to fire up the troops. L.T. was never that kind of guy.

At the end of the day a time comes when you have to cut your losses and move on. There will be a bunch of records that Tomlinson will keep until his dying day. If it weren't for 5 errant field goals, we might be talking about 2 Super Boel appearances during his nine year stay. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Best if luck wherever your travels take you L.T. It was a great nine year run. Thank You!

Over and out in Big D
