Monday Morning Redux.

And to a new month...

The news begins sadly out of Burleson Texas. The facts aren't all in so I will reserve judgment. My prayers go out to Jay Novacek and to his immediate family. This hits too close to home.

There were big time events going on last night. Apparently some fans opted for the glitz and glamor of the gridiron. Quite a few Cowboys in the mix and yes an interesting 41-34 AFC win. Face it, for an added boost could you imagine what a Michelle TaFoya interview with Kanye West been like with Chad Ocho Cinco by his side? I'm just saying...

Man, how time flies! This day in 1982, David Letterman began his run of Late Night Television on NBC. He would have Bill Murray and Pat Paulsen as his 1st two guests. At the time I was pissed that Tom Snyder was taken off the air. I mean, any guy who was cool enough to have the Clash, P.I.L. and Wendy O and the Plasmatics on TV had to be cool. I became a fan later in the decade. It was August 30th 1993, when he moved over to CBS and has remained.

A part of me felt happy for returning coach Dave Tippett in his first game back in Dallas. I was part of the silent majority who felt he got a raw deal after a season of injuries and sub-par play. The big screen paid kudos to Tipp at one point to warm applause. His firing made as much sense to me as the Rangers giving Kevin Millwood a clause to reach an innings pitched goal for a 2010 option...only to get traded. Ah, the politics of cookie cutter financing in trying times. I am not a fan!

With no disrespect to Marc Crawford, yesterdays loss exposed a fatal flaw defensively. While youth serves this team well for the future, I do not expect to see the Stars make the playoffs in 2010. Dallas is in need of some heavy handed hoss play. The current team does not exhibit that as they slowly play their way into a new system. Systems take time. I wonder what the players would say privately about the status of the team if Dave Tippett were still here. We may one day find out...

Remember where you were 7 years ago today when a Shuttle flight, minutes from home disintegrated over Texas skies ? That was a really sad day for me as I was off to class and saw the white plume of smoke go in a straight line going from west to east. The TV replays were very tough to watch. How do you tell a family that your brethren aren't coming home? This on the heels of the Space Shuttle disaster of 1986. I remember...

As the weeklong hypefest for the Super Bowl 44 starts, I am now on record to say I want to see a smile on Archie Manning's face when his old team sticks it to the Colts in a memorable overtime affair. For the Saints to win, they'll need to beat Peyton at his own game of ball-control and keepaway. New Orleans 26-23. I foresee a defensive game in the end. I will be more interested in watching my boys The Who perform!

Make a it a great week and a great month!

Over and out in Big D

Mr. Will
